A year ago, an old high school friend invited me to a poker run to benefit The Journey Home, an organization to help end Veterans homelessness. What a great cause! Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it last year but was able to attend this year. I’ve never even attended a bike event, rally or poker run so I really had no idea what I had committed to.
So Courtney and I headed to Winchester, IN in both buses, loaded with our treasures (Courtney thinks Franklin is the greatest treasure and I have to agree, he’s pretty special) and a ton of “The Journey Home” shirts that Courtney created to sell.
We had dream catchers, wind chimes, wall hangings and jewelry for sale but it goes far beyond selling. It’s meeting people, hearing their stories and making people smile. Love and kindness goes a long way!
I put together 2 baskets of goodies to be used in the raffle. That was fun to blindly create fun and useful things for motorcycle enthusiasts but I think I did alright.
Courtney was the lucky winner of a huge wood slice with the Harley Davidson logo on it. It was really cool.
This was only the 2nd year for this event. Sadly with the torrential rains and storm the night before and the horrible wind the morning of the event, it sidelined a lot of riders. Hopefully each year it will get bigger and better. As with anything, it will take a little time to build up. Rome wasn’t built in a day. I’m excited to watch this event grow and I hope I can be a part of it for years to come.
It was awesome to spend the day with some great people who came together to help others. Any time I’m helping someone, my day is complete. If anyone wants to become involved or donate, I’m sure it would be very much appreciated. They can be reached thru http://journeyhomevets.org
This was very kind of you to add this to your blog. After all these years of not seeing you and to see your busses when I turned the corner made my day even happier. Im sure ill continue these events as long as I can breath and of course you and your busses will always be welcome to any events that I host for The Journey Home. Thanks Amber
You are a guardian angel
Thank you so much for the invite. I know how passionate you are about Veterans and The Journey Home. They sure have a great guy working hard for them. I was honored to be included in the event!
